Legend, Ronaldinho Chooses 'Best Player' Between Messi, Ronaldo, Gives Reasons

Ronaldo and Messi

Ronaldinho, a Barcelona hero, has picked a side in the ongoing debate of who is the best player in the world, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Expess UK, Ronaldinho, who himself is a three-time winner of  the FIFA World Player of the Year award, believes Messi is the best player of all time.

"He [Messi] is the best in history, no doubt,” said Ronaldinho. “Nobody has done what Messi's done. I hope he plays 20 more years.
“Those who love football would love to have him here [Barcelona] for much longer.
“I think when he leaves, nobody will be able to take the No 10 of Leo."

Ronaldinho explains he prefers Messi over Ronaldo because of the manner in which the Argentinian plays the game.

"For me it's not a question over who is more complete, it's a question of taste,” the 38-year-old Brazilian explained to Sport.

“I prefer Messi's style.

“The other one [Ronaldo] is complete, he has it all.

"So does Messi, but it's a question of taste and I prefer Messi's style.”

Ronaldinho spent five years at Barcelona after arriving in 2003, during which he won two La Liga titles, a Spanish Super Cup and the UEFA Champions League.

The Brazilian playmaker thinks football is about the “great moments” within the game, and not necessarily about the whole match.

“"I was never one to watch football a lot, or the whole 90 minutes,” Ronaldinho said.

“I watch the great moments, the goals, that's what I think football is.
“Sometimes it goes well for you, sometimes not, that's football."

Ronaldinho had an outstanding career and played with some of the greatest footballers to play the beautiful game, but he wishes he’d had opportunity to play with Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho - a player he has tipped to become one of the greats of world football.

"There are a lot of players who I didn't coincide with and I would have liked to play with them.

“Coutinho is one of them. Iniesta and him are great players. They each have their own style, but I think the Coutinho will be one of the big names in world football.

“He already is, but I think that he will be more still."
