Abdulmumin Jibrin Resumes At House Of Reps After Suspension For 180 Legislative Days

Federal House of Representatives, finally lifted a suspension it placed on Abdulmumin Jibrin, who represents a constituency from Kano following a letter signed by the lawmaker allegedly apologising to the House.

The Reps speaker, Yakubu Dogara paraphrased the letter by saying he has apologised and met all the conditions given to him. “He has fulfilled all the conditions by writing this letter and so he is free to resume his legislative duties whenever he wants, if he so wishes,” he said.

According to a new report by TheCable, the lawmaker representing Bebeji/Kiru constituency in Kano state, has resumed his duties as he was spotted entering the lower legislative chambers at about 11:40am during plenary on Wednesday.

Recall that Jibrin was suspended in 2017 for a period of 180 legislative days for raising an alarm of the alleged padding of the 2016 budget. The lawmaker, who was chairman of the appropriation committee, was also banned from holding any position in the house.

Jibril had accused speaker Dogara and other principal officers of the house of allegedly attempting to pad N30 billion projects into the budget.

The lawmaker also alleged that the speaker, deputy speaker, chief whip and minority leader had allocated “billions of wasteful projects running over 20 billion to their constituencies”.
