Family Rescued Just Before Their Car Was Swallowed By Mud On A Beach

A car was swallowed whole by mud on a beach – after a family-of-five was dramatically rescued just before it sank. Emergency crews rushed to the Honda Jazz which got stuck in the mud in Brean, Somerset – a stretch of coastline notorious for swallowing cars.
Although the family were taken to safety, the car could not be saved, and was left to sink for the next two days.
The family, from Bristol, were led to safety on Sunday but the car could not be saved and was left to nature for the next two days.
It was completely written off after being battered by waves, with the interior of the supermini filled with mud.
Burnham Coastguards and Weston Recovery, a vehicle recovery service, returned to the scene on Tuesday morning to tow the vehicle from the beach.
It took them two hours to retrieve the Honda, winching it from the mud before dragging it back up a beach and onto a flat bed lorry for removal.
A spokesman for Burnham Coastguard has warned visitors of the potential dangers of parking on the beach.
The incident is the third time this year local coastguards have had to recover a trapped vehicle from Burnham’s beaches.
