Germany Extradites Suspect Behind 1994 Rwandan Genocide To His Country

According to reports, the German government has extradited a suspect in the 1994 Rwandan genocide to Rwanda to face charges.

The man Jean Twagiramungu’s arrest in the German city of Frankfurt 2 years ago happened two decades after the genocide in Rwanda. A genocide which saw to the death of  800,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus by extremist Hutus.

Twagiramungu has been battling extradition request from Kigali, arguing he cannot receive fair trial in Rwanda.

He was handed over Friday to Rwandan police for prosecution in Rwanda by German officials at Kigali International Airport. Twagiramungu faces charges of the genocide and extermination as a crime against humanity.
