Juan Vega, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree breach of peace in Bristol Superior Court Tuesday. One count of animal cruelty against him was dropped as part of a plea deal.
Vega was arrested on April 27 after he showed up unannounced at his girlfriend’s home and began arguing with her, accusing her of being unfaithful in their relationship.Vega told his girlfriend, who was not identified, that he would gather his belongings and leave.
He then pushed her, and kicked and broke a TV, according to a police report.
He gathered his belongings and left the house. Vega’s girlfriend later found that other items in her home had been damaged, including picture frames, she told police.
An officer later spoke to the victim’s child, a 9-year-old boy, who said that the family’s fish had been cut in half.
Police say Vega admitted to damaging property and killing the fish, leaving his girlfriend’s child traumatized.
The prosecutor said the victim did not seek a conviction in the case and wants Vega to seek help.
